COVID-19 vaccine rollout in disability residential accommodation sits at 4pc, as comments labelled ‘cruel’
Recent delays with the COVID-19 vaccine rollout have caused uncertainty and stress among our clients, families and staff. Last week, our CEO Jo-Anne Hewitt talked to the ABC’s national disability affairs reporter, Nas Campanella, about some of our most vulnerable clients living with complex disabilities and health care needs at Achieve Australia’s Summer Hill homes.
All clients in these high health care homes, including Ken Adderley who features in the story with his parents Paul and Melinda, have been unable to get the jab due to these delays. Bringing these issues to light alongside our families is an important step in ensuring people with disability are not forgotten, and we encourage our supporters to have a say in these discussions.
It is encouraging to see the Disability Royal Commission also looking into these important issues to examine the impact that the COVID-19 vaccine rollout has had on people with disability.
