COVID-19

By July 21, 2020Coronavirus, News

UPDATE 21 July
Achieve Australia will be implementing additional COVID-19 precautions across our services based on the latest advice provided by NSW Health to all disability service providers.

The additional measures will be in place from today to help keep our clients, families, staff and the community safe as the spread of COVID-19 continues in Victoria, and in areas of South Western Sydney.

The new measures will include:

  • The use of face masks in our services
  • Updated visitor guidelines
  • Clients attending programs in hotspot areas
  • Additional training and supports for staff

The use of face masks
All disability support staff at Achieve will wear a face mask while at work until at least the end of July. Additional masks are now being distributed across all Achieve homes and sites.

For more information and resources on using face masks during COVID-19, visit: who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/advice-for-public/when-and-how-to-use-masks.

Visitors to Achieve homes and sites
All visitors to Achieve homes and sites will be asked to wear a mask during their visit until at least the end of July, regardless of where they live or where they have visited.

Until the end of July, any visitors who have been in the following local government areas in the previous two weeks will be asked to reschedule their visit to a later date:

  • Fairfield
  • Liverpool
  • Campbelltown
  • Camden
  • Wingecarribee
  • Wollondilly

Some of our homes and sites do support medically vulnerable people and we will be asking all non-essential visitors to avoid visiting the site until at least the end of July, regardless of where they live or have visited. If you are unsure of the current hotspot locations, please visit nsw.gov.au/covid-19 for the latest updates.

We will be limiting visitors at all sites until at least the end of July and we will be communicating clearly with clients and potential visitors to request that, where possible, visits be postponed until after the end of July. Please check in with your on site Achieve contact if you have any questions about any upcoming planned visits.

Clients attending programs in hotspot areas
We are requesting all clients not to attend any external activities run by Achieve or external providers, or attend home visits in South Western Sydney until at least the end of July.

Additional training and supports for staff
Achieve maintains rigorous infection control practices across all sites and our staff are fully trained in current COVID-19 policies and procedures. This includes:

  • Staff and visitor declaration form of symptoms and potential exposure
  • Infection control, cleaning and hygiene practices
  • Maintaining physical distancing, where possible
  • Mandatory staff training, where applicable
  • Staff shortage and employee mobility policies
  • Special leave during COVID-19
  • Temperature checks at specific sites
  • Staff wellbeing and support practices
  • External visitor guidelines

To assist with implementing any new measures we will be distributing additional training materials and further information out to all Achieve staff members.

Thank you for working closely with us as we help stop the spread of COVID-19 in the community and keep everyone safe and well during this time. We will continue to provide further COVID-19 updates as we monitor the situation. In the meantime if you have any questions, please contact your on site Achieve support person or call us on 1300 22 44 38.
