Achieve Australia is continuing to closely monitor and follow state and federal government health advice on the state of COVID-19 in the local community. The below update contains important information on:

  • The status of COVID-19 at Achieve
  • Our current response
  • How you can help stop the spread of COVID-19

Current status

At this stage, we can confirm that an Achieve client has been diagnosed with COVID-19. The client is currently in isolation at hospital and receiving specialist treatment.

Anyone who is at risk from contact with the client, including other clients, staff, family and visitors, have been contacted and, if required, are undergoing self-isolation as a precautionary measure. If you have not been contacted by Achieve or NSW Health by now, you are not impacted.

Achieve is working closely with health authorities and recommended practices are being implemented.

Our response

COVID-19 response team

Recently, we have set up an Infection Control Incident Response Team at Achieve. This means that if an outbreak of COVID-19 occurs at any Achieve home or site, a special taskforce from across the organisation, including nurses and Clinical Nurse Educators, will be sent to the outbreak site.

The Response Team will assist on site staff in directing services, take necessary actions to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all clients and staff, and help contain any further spread of the virus.

New visitor restrictions in place

At all Achieve homes and sites, visitors will now be restricted to immediate family and carers only. In addition, all visitors must fill in a new Visitor Health Declaration Form upon entry and continue to wash their hands or use a hand sanitiser before entering homes or sites.

The form will ask visitors to declare whether they are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19 on arrival and whether they have travelled overseas in recent times.

We understand these practices may take some additional time however these important measures can help protect the people we support and our staff as well as reduce the spread of COVID-19 in the community. We thank you for your understanding.

Cancellation of Global Talks

Based on current advice, and to protect the health and wellbeing of clients, families, carers and staff, our Global Talks family forums will no longer go ahead in Sydney or the Northern Rivers as a face-to-face forum.

Access to video recordings for families and carers will be provided on important organisational updates and information about how we are continuing to support participants, families and staff during this time.

Easy read information for clients

From this week, important information around COVID-19 will be available via our website in Easy Read format. We are also sharing information around handwashing, knowing the symptoms and preventative measures for COVID-19 at each Achieve site in formats that are easy to understand by all.

Impact on services

At this stage, disability services at Achieve’s sites are continuing with additional precautionary measures in place to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. This includes all home and accommodation services, community and lifestyle day program hubs, Drop-in Support and supported employment at The Sewing Basket and AchievAble Enterprises.
