Achieve Australia Statement

Achieve Australia is saddened to report the passing of one of our clients, Brian, aged 61 years. Brian resided in a community home and was being treated in hospital for existing medical conditions when he contracted COVID-19.

Brian will be sadly missed by his two brothers, sister and everyone who knew him.  He was very close to his housemates and enjoyed visiting the beach and parks with them. Brian also loved music, and was known for singing his favourite songs to brighten other people’s day.

“We extend our sincere condolences to Brian’s family and friends and to our Achieve Australia colleagues who are deeply saddened and impacted by this news,” said Achieve Australia CEO, Jo-Anne Hewitt.

“As we face this unprecedented tragedy and loss, I would like to thank the tireless efforts of our frontline staff who are working to provide essential services for the people we support during this difficult time,” said Ms Hewitt.

The wellbeing of the people we support, our staff and the community is Achieve Australia’s number one priority during this crisis. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Achieve Australia has been closely monitoring and following government health advice, including self-isolation practises and stringent infection control procedures in all community homes. Achieve will continue to ensure strict processes are followed.

At this time, Achieve does not have any further cases of COVID-19.

As an added precaution, and to protect the health and wellbeing of everyone in our care, all Achieve Australia homes and sites are currently closed to everyone apart from essential staff and immediate family or carers.
